The house is located in a higher elevation so air conditioning is not needed.

A refundable $300 damage deposit it required before check-in. A nonrefundable cleaning fee of $75 is charged upon check-in or when booking. There is no maid service. Linens are fresh and clean upon arrival and extra linens are supplied in every room.

In January, we decided to visit the big island for a few days to work out the details for our upcoming wedding in May. Having never visited the island before, we were unsure of where to obtain affordable accommodations and were just planning to find a place to stay when we arrived. Lucky for us, Helen mentioned that her rental unit was available and that she would be happy to rent it to us for the two days that we would be on the island. After arriving late in the evening, Helen and Danny met us on the main road and showed us the way to their house and the rental unit. This was a very kind gesture, since we would never have found our way to them on our own, in the dark. After a warm welcome, we were treated to a personal tour of the unit and then left alone to get some much needed sleep. The unit was beautifully decorated in a tropical theme. The living room featured wicker furniture, which framed what my fiance thought of as the unit's best feature, a 52 inch television, complete with satellite programming. Depending on your point of view, this may or may not be the best feature, as I had to pry the remote out of his hand and push him out the door, since we were there during the NFL playoffs! There was a full sized, completely equipped kitchen, where we fixed dinner at one night of our stay and it had everything that we needed. The master bedroom was decorated with rich jewel tones and featured a very comfortable king sized bed. The second, smaller, bedroom was done in a floral motif and contained a queen sized bed. The morning light revealed an incredible mountain side view of the surrounding area, stretching to the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean. There was also a patio, complete with a table and chairs from which to enjoy the view with your morning coffee. Helen and Danny were an invaluable source of information about the island and provided us with maps and directions to several locations that we wanted to visit. They were friendly, helpful, and made us feel like a part of the family. There were many personal touches, from Helen's photography on the wall, to the complimentary microwave popcorn and coffee that was provided. They truly strive to make this a peaceful and relaxing home away from home. Our wonderful experience completely surpassed our expectations and we would definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking for the ultimate in a vacation rental at an amazingly affordable price!
